Our next project will incorporate the works of Joseph Cornell like his works of art below. We had to look up at least three photos that we thought were interesting or striking and explain why. So, here are my choices:
My first choice of Cornell's works of art was this particular painting. At first look, I thought it was a mermaid painting, but the closer I looked at it, the more I realized how she isn't exactly a mermaid. The colors are so beautiful and the undersea life is so accurate that it catches the eye, and then the mermaid-esque woman makes you wonder about it.
My next Cornell choice was this shadow box. I love how one scene continues through the whole box. The bird definitely caught my eye and the whole rustic theme gives you the feel of antiquity. The design in the upper left hand corner is also very interesting. This reminds me of a nest of a door mouse due to the fact that they like to collect various objects and hoard it in their little nests. But maybe that's just me.
My final piece of Joseph Cornell's work is this piece of work. I love the whole feeling of age and discovery that this portrays. But the picture on the left, to me, portrays a feel of modernism and is maybe a little avant garde. I also like the feel of nature that he incorporates through the birds and sea stars.
